President's Address

Dear all,

Welcome to the official Cambridge University Law Society (CULS) website. I am Jiwon Heo, reading Law at Trinity, and I will be your CULS President for 2025-2026.

Founded in 1901, CULS is one of the largest, oldest and most active societies in Cambridge as well as across Europe. We run a variety of speaker, social, careers, and welfare events, manage award-winning Pro Bono projects, organise world-class moots and host some of the most memorable events on the Cambridge calendar, such as our annual Law Ball (running for its 124th year). These events ensure that CULS remains an inclusive place where everyone can make enriching memories.

Over the years, CULS’ activities have grown and diversified, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity. This year, we seek to strengthen these achievements: from creating Diversity & Inclusion Affinity Groupchats to introducing a Non-Law Newsletter. Moreover, we are hosting a broader range of careers and social events from an increased pool of sponsors and partners, such as Legal Technology firms. Our newly introduced Barristers Officers will ensure our Careers Team holds events and workshops to upskill and support both aspiring solicitors and barristers. With aims to revise our existing Alumni Mentorship Programme, CULS continuously seeks to support those within and beyond the CULS community. Our aim is, ultimately, to continue listening and delivering to our members.

CULS is not just a society, it is a community. This year, we aim to further emphasise our community by hosting in-person CULS events that bring the Main Committee and CULS members together with the help of a busy calendar of events and opportunities. We highly encourage you to follow our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) to keep up to date with the society’s activities.

The rest of the Executive Committee (Seetal, Rayna, and Sherelle) and I are incredibly proud of the Main Committee that we have recruited for this year – we are very excited to introduce them and see where this year will take us. We would also like to thank our current and new sponsors for their generous support to our society, and look forward to working with every one of you in the coming year.

Congratulations and the warmest of welcomes to all incoming first-year students who have confirmed their places at Cambridge for 2025-2026! We are also incredibly excited to welcome back returning students. To our current members, thank you for your continued support of CULS, and to our new members, we look forward to meeting you all at many of our events over the year ahead.Kind regards,Jiwon HeoCULS President 2025-2026
