President's Address

Dear all,

Welcome to the official Cambridge University Law Society (CULS) website. I am Vivek Bilous, reading Law at Christ’s, and I will be your President for 2023-2024.

I would like to extend the warmest welcome to you on behalf of our society. Founded in 1901, CULS is one of the largest, oldest and most active societies in Cambridge as well as across Europe. Over the years, CULS’ activities have grown and diversified. We now run a vast array of social, career, welfare and speaker events, manage award-winning Pro Bono projects, organise world-class moots and host some of the most memorable events on the Cambridge calendar like our annual Law Ball (running for the 122nd year) and the Lent Gala, where we hand over to a fresh committee. Therefore, CULS is truly for everyone.

We have a lot to be proud of within our society. CULS has significantly expanded in recent years with the establishment of new departments and initiatives. This year, we are excited to strengthen these fantastic achievements: from enlarging our Diversity & Inclusion and Non-Law departments, to hosting a more diversified range of careers, welfare and social events from an increased pool of sponsors and partners, we aim to continue to do the very best for our members.

Introducing our throughout-the-year CULS Feedback Survey is just another new step towards achieving the best – we really want to hear from you so that we can reflect your needs and desires in what we plan for the year ahead. Furthermore, the rest of the Executive team (Pallavi, Erin and Jean) and I are so very proud of the Main Committee that we have recruited for this year. We can’t wait to introduce them and see where this year will take us; remaining accountable to our tasks but superseding your expectations.

CULS is not just a society, it is a community. Rebounding from the unprecedented time of Covid-19 and adopting the modern hybrid world, CULS has become an even greater place for members to make friends and connections for life, with the help of a packed calendar of events and opportunities available to them. We highly encourage you to follow our social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram) to keep up to date with what has been happening, and what will be happening, within the society.

We would like to thank our current and new sponsors for their generous support to our society. We look forward to working with every one of you in the coming year.

To our members, thank you for your continued support of CULS, and to our new members, we cannot wait to welcome you to CULS. I look forward to seeing you all at many of our events during the year ahead.

Best wishes,
Vivek Bilous
